NCDC Represented at USCCB Convocation of Catholic Leaders
Sr. Georgette Lehmuth, OSF, represented NCDC and the Catholic fundraising community last week at the Convocation of Catholic Leaders. From July 1 - 4, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops convened an unprecedented gathering of key leaders from dioceses and Catholic organizations from across the country in order to assess the challenges and opportunities of our time, particularly in the context of the Church in the United States. The gathering assembled Catholic leaders for a strategic conversation, under the leadership of the bishops, on forming missionary disciples to animate the Church and to engage the culture.
NEWS FROM OUR MEMBERS
The Dominican Sisters of Hope (Ossining, NY) shared a unique way to support the sisters this summer by devoting a BBQ to a cause. Event guests were asked to bring hygiene products for the Newburgh Ministry. “A casual barbecue yielded a small act of kindness that could really make a difference for others.”
Did You Know? Father Baker of Our Lady of Victory Homes/Baker Victory Services (Lackawanna, NY) is considered a pioneer in the field of direct-mail fundraising
When he arrived at the Limestone Hill Institutions (later to be known as the OLV Institutions), Father Baker learned of the organization's large debt. To help address this, he began a national giving club called the Association of Our Blessed Lady of Victory in 1883. Membership cost 25 cents per year and included a regularly published newsletter entitled "The Appeal for Homeless and Destitute Children." He attracted donors by hand-writing notes to thousands of Catholic women throughout the U.S.
