Happy New Year from NCDC! NCDC 50th Anniversary

We’re already into the second week of January of a big year for the Catholic fundraising community. NCDC is celebrating our Golden Jubilee 50th Anniversary in 2018 and we’re looking forward to a banner year of being the leading resource for Catholic organizations and their sponsored ministries.

In addition to continuing our electronic newsletters like Newswire and Catholic Fundraising Weekly, and our print publications like Dimensions in Mission Advancement, we’re continuing our great line-up of educational programming, all geared toward Catholic fundraisers.

Our webinar series this year features 11 new topics, starting with Acquiring New Donors Online on January 17.

NCDC Responds to Passing of Tax Reform Legislation

2017 brought much collaboration with our partners in the nonprofit sector, especially in relation to tax reform. NCDC released a statement on the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act this week.

We, along with our partners in the nonprofit sector, will continue our commitment to seeking the universal tax deduction in 2018.

Alliance of Nonprofit Mailers Meeting

Last week, the Board of Directors of the Alliance of Nonprofit Mailers, of which Sr. Georgette is a member, met in Washington, D.C. The Alliance is closely watching the December 1 proposal rolled out by Postal Regulatory Commission Chairman Robert Taub.

Regional Workshop Series Concludes    

2017 NCDC Fall Regional Workshops

NCDC finished out the second half of our Fall 2017 regional workshop series with gatherings in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Los Angeles.

“I enjoyed the workshop very much. It was clear, informative and time flew,” said participant Ana Castillo of the Missionaries Guadalupanas of the Holy Spirit in Los Angeles.

Spring workshops will take place in several locations beginning in March.

Sr. Georgette Keynotes International Conference

Sr. Georgette in Rome

Last week, Sr. Georgette Lehmuth, OSF, delivered the keynote address at the International Fundraising Conference. Hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, the conference included participants from over 20 countries.

Sr. Georgette’s address focused on building a culture of mission and philanthropy while being donor-centered and mission-driven. She also did a breakout session on ethics and served on an end of the day question and answer panel each evening.

Tax Reform Watch Continues

It’s been a busy week for charitable groups as we carefully watch the outcome of proposed tax reform legislation. NCDC has been working closely with our partners in the nonprofit sector to protect charitable giving. We have released a few statements this week on the issue, and most recently asked you to contact lawmakers.

This issue is moving very quickly and is constantly changing. We encourage you to make sure you are subscribed to Catholic Fundraising Weekly and follow us on social media for the latest updates. Take note of the hashtag #ProtectGiving, which is being used across the nonprofit sector.

Regional Workshop Highlights [VIDEO]

NCDC 2017 Fall Regional Workshops

NCDC has presented multiple workshops this fall in locations around the country with topics ranging from trends in giving, donor relationships, and fundraising planning.

“They were so good! I feel so enriched with their presentations. It was a great privilege to be a participant on this program,” said Sr. Oyin-oza Asishana of the School Sisters of Notre Dame about the program Moving from Understanding Trends to Direction Setting.

NCDC Presents at National Conferences

Sr. Georgette Lehmuth, OSF presented “Fundraising for Fundraisers” at the Catholic Volunteer Network National Conference and “Stewarding Mission in Transformative Ways” at the Annual Conference of the Resource Center for Religious Institutes (RCRI).

Both were held last week in St. Louis and were well received. Sr. Georgette asked participants:

  • Are we willing to create a future distinct from the past?
  • Are we willing to increase engagement and empowerment of donors in mission in essential and critical ways?

NCDC Reports Chicago Mail Delivery Issues

Our Large Volume Mailers affinity group has recently been discussing mail delivery delays. It seemed that most delays were concentrated in the greater Chicago Area. Sr Georgette is in contact with USPS authorities and specifically with operations in Chicago. Please send any details of issues with mail going through or to Chicago to her as soon as possible at glehmuth@ncdc.org.

The Large Volume Mailers affinity group is open to nonprofit NCDC members who mail more than 1 million pieces per year. If you are eligible and interested in joining the group discussion, please contact networking@ncdc.org.

Invitation to Participate: NCDC Annual Development Program Survey

NCDC is once again surveying nonprofit Catholic fundraisers to compile the most comprehensive look at the Catholic fundraising environment. All Catholic nonprofits are invited to participate in the NCDC Development Program Survey.
